Sage

Salvia officinalis

Folk names:

Warning: Appropriation + Large Quantity Ingestion

The use of Salvia spp. (there are 900 salvia varieties) as a "smudge" (stolen language as there are no white cultures that utilize such a term without taking it from brown folx) has become a heavy burden on what few native reservations that we have left in the United States. We suggest using culinary sage or whatever sage you cultivate yourself.

If you wish to use blue and white sages (and by all means, do), we STRONGLY advise that you purchase it on reservation lands from which its been wildcrafted. Many "wildcrafted" sage cleansing wands have done so on indigenous lands without the permission or commercial equity of the tribe.

In large quantities, sage can be poisonous but is generally considered to be safe. Some varieties of sage have stronger components that may change its volatility.

WARNING: Talk to your Doctor/Medical Professional before adding any

Supplements, herbal teas, Infusions, etc.

Part of the reason that we list Medical Jargin is because many plants can interfere with or even counteract medications

we already take or it can exacerbate ailments we already have.

When talking to your Medical Professional, we suggest asking what "actions" an herb might do to interfere with your health, either positive of negative. For example, if you suffer from heartburn, a Cholagogue which creates more bile may not be advantagous. Too much of a good thing, eh?

Cleansing with Sage by Paige Vanderbeck*

"All varieties of sage represent the wisdom of elder and ancient

generations. When dried, sage is burned to clear the spiritual residue from an area, cleanse the aura, and offer spiritual protection. It opens us up to receiving spiritual messages while remaining firmly grounded. One of its most frequent uses is to clear lingering spirits and entities from a new home before moving in."
